Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in job-related tasks to complete the construction of landscapes including digging, planting, loading and unloading of materials 
  • Operate various tools such as shovels, hammers, drills, saws
  • Assist with grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, pruning and snow clearing
  • Work as team member to complete landscape projects efficiently and with quality workmanship

Skills and Abilities:

  • Time management skills
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Ability to walk, stand, and crouch for long periods of time
  • Carry a minimum of 30 lbs. and have good manual dexterity
  • Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment
  • Committed to self-improvement and a willingness to learn new skills
  • Ability to carry out strenuous physical tasks in various outdoor conditions including heat, rain, dust, noise and cold
  • Must have a valid driver’s licence and safe driving record

Working Conditions:

Grounds Maintenance Crew Leader: Permanent Full-Time

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform weekly mowing, weeding, garbage collection and trimming at a variety of locations.
  • Maintain equipment on a regular basis.
  • Plan and manage all daily labour, equipment, and material requirements to complete daily objectives.
  • Snow clearing in the winter months.

  • Excellent problem solving and time management abilities
  • Ability to work both independently and with a team
  • Critical thinker – capable of adapting to increase effectiveness and efficiency of the team
  • Demonstrates success with customer experience management
  • Demonstrates accountability for workmanship with a focus on quality

Working Conditions:

  • Love of working outdoors is essential and the willingness to work in inclement weather conditions
  • Able to walk, stand and crouch for extended periods of time.
  • Can lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • During the peak season is willing to work extended hours
  • Full-time, permanent, year-round (spring, summer, fall weekdays and winter as needed)

Qualifications:

  • Landscape Journeyman or Horticulture Diploma
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience as a ground’s maintenance crew leader
  • Capable of operating required equipment and tools in a safe and responsible manner
  • Alberta Class 5 drivers’ licence and a safe/clean driving record
  • Effective communication skills (both verbal and written – English)
  • First Aid Certificate (or willingness to obtain one)

Compensation:

Salary, vacation and perks depend on qualifications of the applicant and will be discussed in the interview, but might include:

  • Use a preventative maintenance program

  • Replace, order and source parts as required
